English Al Fresco have delivered five-star rated nature-based, activity-oriented English courses to students all over Europe since 2020. We now bring you a programme of English tuition in a traditional classroom – but with a twist!
Al Fresco Language House is the chance to study English with native speakers in a classic Scottish country house in Moffat, southern Scotland! Live on site at the house in comfortable private or shared rooms, study in sumptuous classrooms with true Victorian style, and use your new skills to socialise with fellow students who are studying at the same level. When classes are over, head out and explore the small, friendly community in town: hang out in the local pubs, enjoy the local cafes, and explore the busy high street with its small independent shops.
Our 16-hour-per-week intensive courses and additional weekly conversation clubs will allow you to immerse yourself in the English Language, and make rapid progress. When the weekend comes you are perfectly placed to either relax in our lounges, take in the fresh air of the local hills, or we can help you organise independent travel with confidence to explore nearby Glasgow, Edinburgh, and the Highlands!

The Experience
Our Autumn 2025 term will run for 8 weeks from Monday October 13th to Sunday 7th December. Packages including tuition, breakfast, and accommodation start from from £550 per week (shared room) and £800 per week (private room).
Language Level
We will be running A2 (Pre-Intermediate), B1 (Intermediate) and B2 (Upper-Intermediate) groups according to demand. You can join the term on any Monday for between 1-8 weeks of study. When you enrol, we will send you a written level test, to be followed by a short speaking test by voice call to determine which level is best for you.
Course Format
Students are taught by CELTA-qualified and experienced teachers for 16 hours per week. There are a maximum of 8 students per tuition group. Students have classes for 4 hours per day on Monday-Thursday, with conversation and movie clubs taking place of Friday. Teachers use the New English File course for the core of the syllabus. Text books and workbooks are provided to each student and are included in the price.
Conversation Club
Each Friday afternoon, students are invited to join a 2-hour Conversation Club, which is included in the course price. Each Conversation Club will be different, but will feature a variety of team games, pub quizzes, social group walks, and other activities supervised by native speakers. A free Movie Club will also be available each Friday evening.
Accommodation
Accommodation is available on site in the house. We offer shared rooms (spacious rooms for up to 3 people) or private rooms. All rooms have their own WC and bathroom. The house can accommodate up to 12 students, so you will find that you become a member of a friendly community where there are always people around with whom to practice your new language skills!
